Initial Assessment & Containment

Upon arrival, our team conducted a thorough assessment of the scene to determine the full scope of the traumatic death cleanup and biohazard contamination. The master bedroom was the primary affected area, with contamination extending into the master bathroom. Structural Penetration

The nature of the traumatic event resulted in biological material, including bone fragments and spatter, impacting the master bedroom ceiling and walls. The flat paint finish on these surfaces compounded the difficulty: flat paint is highly porous and absorbs biological fluids and odor compounds deeply, making surface-level treatment insufficient.

A large section of the ceiling and a portion of the wall required full removal and disposal as biohazardous material. This structural remediation exposed clean substrate and allowed our team to treat the underlying framing and remaining surfaces directly.

02  |  SUBSURFACE

Subsurface Blood Contamination

Blood had traveled from the primary loss site down the rear of the bed, saturating the mattress and penetrating the box spring. From there, it had wicked into the wood bed frame and migrated through the wood flooring into the subfloor below.

This type of multi-layer contamination is one of the most technically demanding scenarios in biohazard remediation. Each layer must be addressed independently and in sequence.

The mattress, box spring, and bed frame were removed and disposed of as biohazardous waste. The wood flooring was removed, exposing the subfloor for direct treatment.

Odor Permeation of Contents

Decomposition-related odor had permeated the contents of the master bedroom and closet, including clothing, personal items, and soft goods.

Items that could not be decontaminated to a safe and odor-free standard were removed from the property.

Our team executed a structured, multi-phase remediation protocol across the contained zone. Each phase was sequenced deliberately to address contamination from the most aggressive biological sources down to residual odor:

All biological material, contaminated bedding, mattress, box spring, wood bed frame, and affected personal contents from the bedroom and closet were removed and properly disposed of as biohazardous waste. This removal addressed both contaminated materials and affected contents within the primary remediation areas.

The impacted ceiling section and wall section were removed and disposed of as biohazardous material, exposing clean framing and substrate for treatment. Removing the affected structural materials allowed the underlying areas to be directly accessed and remediated.

Enzymatic cleaner was applied to surfaces and the exposed subfloor to break down organic biological compounds at the molecular level. This was a critical step before disinfection and helped prepare the affected surfaces for the subsequent stages of the remediation process.

A professional-grade degreaser was applied to address lipid-based biological residues on hard surfaces and structural elements. This treatment was incorporated into the decontamination process before subsequent steam and disinfection treatments.

Steam treatment was applied to the subfloor and remaining hard surfaces, using heat to penetrate porous material and neutralize biological contamination beyond what chemical agents alone can reach. This provided an additional treatment step for the affected porous and hard surfaces.

Product 300 was applied to hard surfaces and structural areas for comprehensive disinfection. This treatment formed part of the multi-step decontamination process following the removal and initial cleaning stages.

Product 522 was used as part of the final decontamination and odor-neutralization protocol on applicable surfaces. Its application formed part of the final treatment sequence used to address remaining contamination and odor concerns.

Following steam and disinfection, ATP (adenosine triphosphate) testing was conducted on the subfloor to verify biological cleanliness before sealing. Light staining remained visually, but ATP results confirmed the surface was biologically clean and safe to seal. This provided objective verification that the treated subfloor was ready for the next stage of the remediation process.

The decontaminated subfloor was sealed with shellac-based primer, encapsulating residual staining and any trace odor compounds at the substrate level. This provided a clean, sealed surface ready for new flooring installation.
